Pre-Flood Prayer Event Brings Christian Community Together

Recognizing that it was only God's mercy that prevented the greater Fargo-Moorhead area from being overcome by last year's record-breaking flooding, people from all over the community gathered this past Sunday afternoon, March 14, at Bethel Church for the Pre-Flood Community-Wide Prayer Gathering. With worship direction provided by a group of area worship pastors, and a handful of Fargo-Moorhead's pastors and other Christian leaders facilitating prayer for a variety of important issues relating to the flood fight, this gathering has proven very important for a couple of reasons.

The most obvious reason is the pending flood itself. With a projected crest just three feet below last year's record-crushing level, it has become vital for the Fargo-Moorhead community to diligently prepare as if the entire fight depended upon them, while calling on God knowing that victory ultimately comes from Him alone. Praying for the numerous students who are making an important difference on the front lines of sandbagging, for the community leaders who are tasked with difficult decision-making, and, of course, petitioning God for good weather and a restrained river, were of the utmost importance. Praying about these things, and more, as a community, proved to be a special treat.

But a second reason this week's gathering was so crucial was that so many churches were brought together. Representatives from Triumph Church-East and West Campus, Hope Lutheran Church, Salem Evangelical Free Church, First Assembly of God, the Catholic Diocese, Calvary Methodist Church, and, of course, Bethel Church, as well as support from the Salvation Army, Northwestern College Radio and KFNW, AM 1100 Radio's Valley Faith Alive Program, and numerous others, not only made the event possible, but solidified all the more the special relationship that is enjoyed within Fargo-Moorhead's Christian community.
