What the Bible Says About Giving
Just as the church in Macedonia gave beyond their means through integrity and discipline, so we too want to be models of giving in abundance, knowing that this honors our Lord. We see in 2 Corinthians 8-9 that God's desire is for us to give eagerly from an overflowing joy found in Christ. At Bethel, our desire is that giving would not be casual or occasional but would be marked by generosity and cheerfulness.
Giving is a vital part of spiritual formation and growth requiring faith and faithfulness. When we give, we recognize God as our true provider and affirm our confidence in His ability to supply all we need (1 Chron. 29:11-12). Each gift is an act of gratitude and dependence on the Lord.
We are able to give eagerly knowing that it pleases God as we seek His will for our lives. Our consistency in giving demonstrates faithful stewardship of all God has provided for us. In Christ, we've already been provided everything we need for life and godliness. (2 Peter 1:3) Any gift of treasures, talents, or time we give is a response to the greatest gift we've already received in the person of Jesus.
