Adult Bible Fellowships (ABF)

Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.—Ephesians 5:1-2

What is an Adult Bible Fellowship?

One of the ways we connect in community at Bethel is through mid-size classes throughout the week. These Adult Bible Fellowships (ABFs) provide a context to make friends, learn together, and serve. For those beginning or exploring faith, Christianity Explored is a great entry into ABFs. Others who are growing or multiplying may enjoy one of the studies on Ephesians or Acts or one of the skill-based classes listed below. Unless noted, classes meet September through December.

Winter 2014 Adult Bible Fellowships

Sundays at 9 a.m.

Resolving Everyday Conflict – Led by Kenyon Williams, Room 112 (Started March 16)
Conflict. We face it every day…at home, at work, and even within the church. The question isn’t how do we avoid it, the question is: how do we show the face of Christ even in the midst of it? Join us for an 8-week study as we use the incredibly practical, rubber-hits-the-road “Peacemakers” curriculum to help you transform your relationships with the power of the gospel.

College Bible Study – Led by Tyler White, Room A
Join other college students as they begin the next study topic – the book of Genesis

Philippians – Led by Pastor Jonas Bundy, Room B
This small book provides a dynamic opportunity for us to engage in what it means to know Christ and make Him known to those around us. Teaching will be heavy on dialogue and application. Everyone is welcome to join us.

Spiritual Gifts Class—Led by Pastor Jonas Bundy, Room B (Starting May 11)
Have you ever heard people talk about spiritual gifts and wonder what they’re talking about? Here’s your chance to find out. Pastor Jonas will lead you through a 3 week class on learning your spiritual gifts, what they mean for you, and how you might use them.

How the Church Got its Start (Acts) – Led by VerDale Herman and David Hjelle, Room E
The book of Acts starts out with Jesus ascension into heaven, and then gives us some significant history of how the church was birthed starting with the giving of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit’s work amongst the apostles who followed Jesus on earth and later the apostle Paul. Join us as we take a look at the early church and how what was done early in the church’s history affects much of what we do today.

Sundays at 10:45 a.m.

Learning Hebrew – Led by Stephen Takacs, Conference Room
Learning the Biblical languages of Greek and Hebrew can be an enriching experience for those who love the challenges of learning. Many have compared knowing Greek or Hebrew to the difference between watching a movie in color and watching a movie in High Definition; the movie doesn’t change but the layers and contours of understanding deepen. By learning Hebrew together we hope to explore the texture of the Hebrew Scriptures.

Friends (Special Needs Class for Adults) – Led by Randy Finley, Brenda Hansen, and Deanna Gregory, Room A
Our Friends class is a Bible study for adults with developmental disabilities. Lessons are ability-appropriate and use the intellect of the individual as well as music and crafts to encourage the understanding of Bible stories, helping others, prayer, and Jesus Christ. We believe regardless of disability God has equipped all his people to know Him in a personal way. Appropriate age is teenage and above.

Ephesians – Led by Pastor Paul Bond and Steve Swanson, Room B
Please come, explore and discover the depth and richness of the first of the Apostle Paul’s prison epistles, the book of Ephesians. This small but magnificent book delves deeply and  masterfully into each of the major Bible doctrines except the doctrine of end times.  Discover the “Grand Canyon of Scriptures;” the masterpiece of Paul’s writings. The first 3 chapters of Ephesians will be a 12 week course and the second half of Ephesians, chapters 4 through 6 will also take 12 weeks. No books are required except your Bible; a free Ephesians syllabus will be handed out to each student.

20s – 30s Class – Led by Pete & Anna VanHal, Kristi Schipull, & Chris Irion, Room C
This is a group of 20 and 30 somethings that strives to provide godly community while encouraging personal growth by studying the word, serving, and living life together. This group goes through various studies throughout the ministry year and always tries to meet the needs of the group where they are. If you are looking for a place to connect, join them any Sunday morning!

Singles Over 40 – Led by Gail Paschke and Scott Nielsen, Room 112
This ABF hopes to provide meaningful opportunities to connect in relationship with others in a similar stage in life, and to offer class members a chance to engage in group social activities outside of class. They are currently working through the book of 1 John together. Single and over 40 . . . all are invited!

Wednesday Evenings at 6:30 p.m.

Spiritual Gifts Class—Led by Pastor Jonas Bundy, Room C (Starting April 23)
Have you ever heard people talk about spiritual gifts and wonder what they’re talking about? Here’s your chance to find out. Pastor Jonas will lead you through a 3 week class on learning your spiritual gifts, what they mean for you, and how you might use them.
