Prepare – Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Devotional

God’s peace and comfort in the midst of uncertain times gives us a sense of hope. It calms and sustains us as we take a breath and feel secure in His presence. But the questions still linger – “What’s next, Lord?” “What is Your purpose for me in the days ahead?” “Help me understand what You desire for me as a ‘new normal’.”

There is no lack of clarity in the Scriptures. God leaves us here on earth to be witnesses of the risen, living Savior. He wants us to go and tell. He encouraged each one He encountered before His ascension – the women, the disciples, the men on the Emmaus Road – “be a witness of Me, the resurrected Christ.”

Perhaps your life feels like it has been turned upside down by the recent Covid-19 crisis. Everything has been put on hold, and you are not sure how long this state of limbo will last. Will life ever return to normal? When? What will your ‘new normal’ be?

The followers of Jesus found peace in His presence, and then He made His purpose for their lives crystal clear. As they went on their way as His witnesses, He commissioned them to make disciples of all men. That was to be their highest aspiration, their life goal – to be a witness of the love of Christ and His power to transform lives for all eternity. Anything less is a waste of your life! Put Him first! Trust Him that all the other pieces will then fall into place. God can use ordinary people just like you and I to accomplish His purposes.
