Prepare – Psalm 91:1-2
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
I love how the author of Psalm 91 brings our attention to the dwelling place of the Most High and invites us to spend time there. Psalm 91 has proved to be a great psalm for me to read daily.
Being in close quarters with all of my family all of the time has brought our “dwelling place” into full view. Here we are, all dwelling in this place together. As I write those words, I remember how fortunate I am. We have so much to be thankful for!
Eugene Peterson summarizes these verses in his paraphrase The Message:
You who sit down in the High God’s presence,
spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow,
Say this: “God, you’re my refuge.
I trust in you and I’m safe!”
When you spend time with God, you are reminded that you live in the shadow of His care. Having trusted Jesus for our salvation, we are offered the shelter of dwelling with Him. The author of Hebrews says we can come to the throne of God with confidence knowing that He hears our prayers and intercedes for us. In what ways can you go to God today in prayer, remembering that we live in His shadow?
Truly, God is our refuge and in Him we are safe.
Today, remember that no matter what you face, you can find shelter and security in the safe arms of Jesus.
Dwell with Him.
