Prepare – Psalm 46:10-11

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah”

Devotional

One of the hardest things to do when I am anxious or concerned is to be still. It’s kind of like trying to make yourself go to sleep – the harder you try, the less effective you are. In Psalm 46, the sons of Korah give us good reason to be still – God.

God controls the earth. God speaks and the earth melts. He controls nations, events, situations, everything. And he is with us, protecting us as a fortress.

It’s especially hard, though, as a parent, to release control to God. When we have raised kids, taken care of them, provided for them, and prayed over them, it’s hard to daily and monthly and yearly release more and more control and let them become independent. From the perspective of a parent, I think it was easier to take risks as a child than to let my child take risks as a parent!

Moms and Dads – this is how our faith grows. God is great and God is good! Trust him.

Moms, especially on this Mother’s Day, rejoice that God will exalt his name as you trust in him. Know it, cling to God’s power and God’s goodness today. He is God!
