Prepare – Proverbs 30:7-9
“Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.
Job 23:12
I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.
Devotional
Maybe you’re like me and you’ve found yourself and perhaps others in your home spending many hours these last days in the kitchen! Our fuel consumption is way down but the food consumption… well it has reached an all-time high. It’s just amazing what can be consumed on any given day!
Yesterday morning as I sat in my kitchen, the sun serendipitously shone brightly and illuminated our bread box aptly labeled in big bold letters “BREAD.” With so many around the world and even locally living without, I thought to myself, “I am so thankful to have enough!” But then He decided to go a little deeper with me.
Immediately “daily bread” from the Lord’s Prayer came to my mind, and He reminded me that He alone is my portion. In this world of excess, do I find my life to have an excess of God? Is my life too stuffed to be hungry for His portion? How about you? Do you crave the things of God or too focused on other things? We need to be choosing to feast daily on His Love and Goodness so over time you and I will lose our appetite for everything else!
As you spend time with Him today, I pray that God will open your eyes to the unseen things He gives freely to you every single day! May you be overwhelmed with His goodness and fullness! His portion for you was enough yesterday, and today, and will be again tomorrow! Relax, take heart, give thanks and have joy!
