Christmas Can Still Change the World!aina

This year, through Advent in Action, we are encouraging our congregation to celebrate Christmas by spending less and giving more. America spends an average of $130 billion a year at Christmas! So what are we asking? That each of us consider buying one less gift this year. Just one. By spending less, we have the opportunity to redirect those dollars to a ministry who will use them to build the Kingdom.

“Sharing the love of Christ in times of need.”

EFCA Crisis Response has asked us to partner with them this year to help provide relief from the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey. Hurricane Harvey’s impact on families and communities served by local EFCA churches across the Texas coastline was devastating. Assessments show almost every EFCA church in the Houston region (15 total) with families flooded out of homes and extensive damage in their communities. The goal of these relief efforts is gospel outreach and intentional disciple-making. 2017 Advent in Action dollars will be used to purchase supplies, send teams, and support the ongoing outreach of EFCA Crisis Response in disaster relief. 100% of the funds raised through Advent in Action will go to EFCA Crisis Response.

Over the last several years Advent in Action investments in water wells, sanitation improvements, hurricane relief in Haiti, and transportation have all proved to be tangible expressions of Christ’s love. We regularly receive updates from Master’s Heart, AwanaIFOSuD, and others that our investments are providing opportunities to share the love of Jesus. These projects regularly remind people that God really does love their community.

EFCA Reach Global Crisis ResponseCrises offer unique opportunities for compassionate outreach, evangelism, and disciple-making. EFCA Crisis Response helps EFCA churches and ReachGlobal partners prepare for and respond to disasters in their communities and around the world. Through holistic ministry, we are seeing God restore hope, rebuild lives and transform communities.

We invite you to learn more about the work of EFCA ReachGlobal Crisis Response and to join us in praying for their requests this advent season.

  • For peace and provision for the many families experiencing flooding who attend EFCA churches in the Houston area, as well as friends and neighbors.
  • For local EFCA recovery and gospel outreach efforts to reach the hurting and the lost.
  • For effective service and outreach opportunities to the city’s many immigrants and refugees, as Houston is the most racially and ethnically diverse city of the 10 largest U.S. metropolitan areas.
  • For the Church across the country to mobilize people and resources for a sustained, long-term response.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me… “
(Matthew 25:34-35 ESV)

Reach Global Crisis Response

Will what I give make a difference?

If we all give a little, it adds up to a LOT. Your gift of $40, $100, or $1,000 will go a long way toward providing tools for cleanup, clean-up kits for families, and supplies for rebuilding. Each donation will provide meaningful relief given in the name of Jesus.

These investments help build gospel-centered relationships. If every adult at Bethel gave $50 we would quickly raise over $60,000! Let’s join together this season in sending a special gift to EFCA ReachGlobal Crisis Response. Merry Christmas!
