Why not me?

Judy PossenWhen faced with a cancer diagnosis, most people would ask God, “Why me?” Judy Possen instead chose “Why not me?” Judy’s fight with cancer has proven to her again and again that God’s power is made perfect in weakness (2 Cor. 12:9).

Judy was first diagnosed with cancer in December of 2000. After surgery and chemotherapy, the doctors thought she had beat it. So for fourteen years, and regular doctor visits, she celebrated being cancer free for 17 years. But in March 2018, during an unrelated trip to the emergency room for what she thought was a bad cold, they found that cancer had never left her. It had metastasized into her spine and left hip. Judy took this news as another adventure with God. She said, “My belief is God is in control. When He allowed it to not be detected when it did show up in 2015, on a scan, and when she canceled her cancer policy months prior to this finding, He wanted me to lean on Him.”

But choosing to trust God, Judy has seen His hand at work through her cancer journey. Though her cancer is advanced, she is not in any pain and believes it is due to the power of prayer and so many others praying for her that she is able to avoid pain medication. Judy knows that God is with her, and has relied on Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”

If she’s taken one thing from her journey, it’s that God has always been with her and if we love Him, He will never leave us.
