Foolishness of the Cross and the Power of God

Paul declares, “the word of the cross is foolish to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” Like Paul, we live in an age that values sophistication, material success, and philosophies that promote man as a god. We learn in this passage that wisdom sourced in the world’s patterns is not really wise at all. God confounds the world’s wisdom with the simple message of the cross. The message that Jesus died for our sin as a substitute and we receive this by grace through faith is foolish to the perishing and powerful to those of us being saved.
