As Jesus left the dinner table and traveled outside it is easy to imagine he and his disciples walking through a local vineyard. Imagine Jesus picking up a grapevine then talking to them about the true vine. Jesus knew there were some who claimed to be branches of this true vine but who were not. He tells the men that those non-fruit bearing branches are simply dead wood and will be gathered up and cast into a fire. For the disciples, who are true followers of Jesus, the Father desires that they would be like a fruitful vine resulting in a great harvest of righteousness. Jesus longs for His followers to live a life of obedience producing spiritual fruit that lasts. Apart from an abiding relationship with Jesus, this fruitful living cannot happen.
