Jesus is the Sabbath

Review: The action of the disciples in plucking heads of grain as they passed through a field on a Sabbath walk provoked yet another controversy between Jesus and the Jewish, religious elite. The action in itself was wholly legitimate, but it revealed the tendency of the Pharisees to heap religious requirements upon the shoulders of those who would pursue God. In a world of legalism, “rest” becomes allusive as one feverishly tries to satisfy the expectations of others, but Jesus comes that a life of legalism can be exchanged for a place of rest.
