Perhaps the most fascinating prophecy in the Bible is found in the book of Daniel; it is the prophecy of Daniel 9:24-27, the “seventy weeks,” a period of 70 sevens or 490 years. This amazing prophecy is God’s plan of salvation for the nation of Israel and His judgment upon the godless age of Gentile domination on earth. The “70 weeks” prophecy begins with Persian King Artaxerxes decree to restore Jerusalem until the Messiah is “cut off” (crucifixion), a period of “69 weeks.”. Since the first part of Daniel’s prophecy has been meticulously fulfilled, “69 weeks” in Daniel 9:26, the last 7 year period, or the 70th week of Daniel’s prophecy, is still to be fulfilled in the future. The “70th week” is the 7 year period known as the Great Tribulation, otherwise known in Jeremiah 30:7 as the “time of Jacob’s trouble” when Satan’s anointed man, the Antichrist, will arise and rule the earth until he is destroyed by the second coming of Jesus Christ.
