CloseAfter Joseph and Mary had presented Jesus in the temple as an infant, they returned to Bethlehem, 6 miles south/southwest of Jerusalem. Magi from nearly a thousand miles away travel to see baby Jesus. Jesus is likely a couple of years old and His family have established residency in Bethlehem in Matthew 2. The Magi from Babylon would have been exposed to Jewish traditions and teaching as Jewish outposts were known in those regions. The sign of the star drew the Magi to Jerusalem to meet, “the king of the Jews.” This baby Jesus was no ordinary baby. He was to be the King of Israel in the line of David (1:6). The Magi had no idea what they were about to experience as they encountered the young Jesus. This star that had brought them to Jesus was about to introduce them to the greatest Light the world has ever seen.
