In Genesis 32, Jacob finds himself at the end of all he can depend on apart from God. His life in on the line. If he relies on himself, his life is over. Esau is preparing to meet Jacob with more than 400 of his men. It appears that Esau is ready to do battle with the brother that supplanted him. Jacob is fearing for his life, desperate for God, praying for deliverance, maneuvering to preserve his inheritance and hopeless in his own strength. Apart from God’s intervention, Jacob will be overcome by his brother and all of the promises of God will not be realized. In his flesh, Jacob has conspired and done all he can. Turning to God, Jacob’s will was conquered and the Spirit of God prevailed in His life. At the end of Genesis 32, God met Jacob in his desperation and proved Himself faithful.
