Overcoming Sin
John makes it very clear in 1 John 1:5-10 that God’s light exposes the darkness of our sin. As we walk in the light of God’s love, that light exposes our sin and Jesus’ blood cleanses us from sin. He alone is the path to purity. The church receiving the letter of 1 John was being torn apart by people from within and those from without. John reminded the believers that the foundation of their fellowship is Jesus. For some, they departed from this by believing a lie that they were without sin. To say that we are without sin is to deceive ourselves. We experience being made clean when we confess our sins.
