Preparing for Baptism
Everyone being baptized will take part in a baptism class or meeting beforehand. This is an opportunity to talk about the meaning of baptism, what to expect during the service, and answer any questions before baptism day.
Adults & Students
Students and adults will attend a baptism class. In Fargo, the class is taught by Pastor Lucas Jackson. In Kindred, the class is taught by Pastor Jonas Bundy.
Children
Children will meet with Kids Ministry & Family Pastor Jeff Curtis, along with a parent or guardian. This conversation gives Pastor Jeff an opportunity to hear about the child’s faith in Jesus, talk together about what baptism means, and help determine the right next step.
Upcoming Classes
Adults and students in grades 6-12 are invited to attend baptism class on Sunday, November 1, at 9 AM in Room 112. Register here.
Questions? Contact Pastor Lucas for information.
What is Baptism?
Baptism is commanded by Christ in Matthew 28:19-20 and has been practiced by Christians in the Scriptures and throughout history. Baptism is the act of being immersed in water to declare a believer’s identification with the message, followers, and person of Christ. Baptism is not a requirement for receiving eternal life. Baptism at Bethel is a time of public celebration of the miraculous work of salvation that God provided through His Son.
Who Should Be Baptized?
Anyone who has placed their faith in Christ for salvation is encouraged to be baptized.
Is Your Child Interested in Baptism?
If your child is asking about baptism or has expressed a desire to be baptized, we’d love to walk through that decision with your family. We recommend that children be in second grade or older so they can begin to understand the significance of baptism as a step of obedience and a public expression of their faith in Jesus.
If your child is interested in baptism, please contact our Kids & Family Pastor, Jeff Curtis. He’d love to talk with you and your child about what baptism means, hear about their faith in Jesus, and help determine the right next step.
Why is Baptism Important?
- Christ was baptized. (Matthew 3:16)
- The Lord approved of his disciples baptizing (John 4:1-2)
- Christ commanded it. (Matthew 28:19)
- The early church gave an important place to baptism. (Acts 2:38-47; 8:9-13; 8:36-40; 10:44-48)
- The New Testament uses this ordinance to picture or symbolize important truths. (Romans 6:1-10; Galatians 3:27; I Peter 3:21)
